It’s a “Love Story,” and Taylor Swift has said yes!
She and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce are engaged, with the couple announcing the news on social media in a joint post on Tuesday with a carousel of photos of the floral-focused proposal.
“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” the post was captioned.
The post was set to Swift’s fan-favorite song “So High School” from her latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department.” Kelce famously made a surprise on-stage appearance on The Eras Tour in June 2024 during a this album’s set list.
Kelce’s father, Ed, told News 5 in an exclusive interview that the proposal took place roughly two weeks ago.
The engagement post has amassed over 23 million likes in the first nine hours of being published and was liked by scores of public figures, including the Prince and Princess of Wales, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, comedian Nikki Glaser and actors Lea Michele and Molly Shannon. Jenny Han — the author behind “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” which notably relies on Swift’s music throughout the beloved show — also liked the post. Other celebrities, like Patrick Mahomes, Sabrina Carpenter and Cara Delevingne reposted the announcement on their Instagram Stories.
“Two of the most genuine people meet & fall in love,” Mahomes’ wife, Brittany, wrote in a post on Instagram Stories, adding a white heart and crying-happy face emojis. “Just so happy for these two.”
“I wish them a lot of luck,” Donald Trump, who has been critical of Swift in the past, said when informed of the engagement during a multi-hour cabinet meeting. “I think he’s a great player, and he’s a great guy, and I think she’s a terrific person.”
The news broke in the middle of the Chiefs’ media availability, though after head coach Andy Reid had departed. That left Chiefs defensive end Mike Danna to field questions about his teammate’s engagement.
“Man, it’s incredible,” Danna said, a few minutes after the news raced across social media. “I was caught off guard, but you know, great for them. … That’s a blessing. Any time you find that type of joy, blessing, love — that’s a beautiful thing.”
The engagement comes nearly two years after the pair first made their relationship public in September 2023.
The one-of-a-kind, vintage-inspired ring is an Old Mine Brilliant Cut handcrafted by jeweler Kindred Lubeck, who worked with Kelce to design the sparkler, a representative for the pop star confirmed.
The elongated antique cushion-cut diamond, with an estimated price of $550,000, is approximately eight carats and set in 18k yellow gold, according to Brides. That’s no problem for Kelce, who makes a little over $1 million per game based on his current contract, which paid him approximately $17.125 million for the 2024 season.
Now, fans wait patiently to learn more about when Kelce and Swift, both 35, will tie the knot.
